NEO is a 1.68m humanoid from Norwegian-American firm 1X, sold as a household helper for tidying, fetching and simple chores. Pre-orders opened on 28 October 2025 at $20,000 outright or $499 a month, with a $200 deposit. 1X says the first year’s allocation sold out within five days. The company’s own line is US deliveries in 2026 and ‘other markets’ from 2027. It has not named the UK, so any UK date is an inference. Production began at a factory in Hayward, California on 30 April 2026. By late October there was still no independent confirmation of a NEO in a paying customer’s home; early units went to internal testing. On 19 September the chief executive set a target of 50,000 shipments in 2027, backed by a second factory in San Carlos that should mostly come online late in 2027. SoftBank was reported in late August to be negotiating a controlling stake at about $6bn. For UK households, there is nothing to buy yet. Anyone considering an import should note that early tasks may rely on a remote human operator seeing inside the home.
