Valo is the production design from Bristol’s Vertical Aerospace: an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft for a pilot and four passengers, with a planned range of around 100 miles. It succeeds the VX4 prototype, which achieved piloted two-way transition between hover and wing-borne flight in April 2026 and flew at the Farnborough Airshow in July. In December 2025 Vertical, Skyports and Bristow outlined the UK’s first air-taxi network, from Canary Wharf to Heathrow, Gatwick, Cambridge and Oxford, targeted for the first quarter of 2029. That date assumed certification in 2028. In July 2026 Vertical moved its type-certification target to 2029, citing the rigour of certifying a new class of aircraft, so the network date now looks optimistic. On 25 September it opened an assembly centre at Cotswold Airport. The first certification-conforming aircraft is due to be assembled there from late 2027. Money is the other question. In August Vertical flagged material uncertainty about its ability to continue as a going concern, with funding expected to last only to the third quarter of 2027 without new capital, and in September it began a review of “strategic alternatives”. It says certification work continues. The CAA aims to allow initial commercial eVTOL flights by the end of 2028. No fares have been published. For UK businesses, this is a 2029-plus story, and pricing for a Canary Wharf to Heathrow hop is unknown.
