Neuralink’s N1 is a wireless implant with more than 1,000 electrodes on ultra-thin threads, placed in the brain by a surgical robot, which lets the user control a cursor or phone by thought. In the UK it is available only through GB-PRIME, a small feasibility study at University College London Hospitals and the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. The study is for GB residents with little or no use of both hands because of motor neurone disease, spinal cord injury or similar conditions, and was described as enrolling up to seven people. UCLH announced the first UK implant in October 2025. The patient, who has motor neurone disease, used a computer hours after surgery. By late January 2026, UCLH said seven participants had had surgery at its National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery between October and December 2025. A feasibility study tests safety and early function. It is not a route to market, and there is no UK regulatory approval, NHS commissioning decision or price. For households, the realistic message is: not purchasable, and years from routine clinical use.
